to participate in a half-day, online faculty development event to help you get ready for the summer
semester. Both new and experienced faculty are encouraged to attend to learn about important
changes and modifications to Canvas, including the introduction of New Quizzes, as well as other
new instructional technologies to promote student engagement, innovative teaching practices,

Strategies and Best Practices for Teaching in an Accelerated Format

Adapting your course to an accelerated format requires special attention to pacing, workload, and other considerations to facilitate student success in just a few weeks. Join us for an overview of strategies and engagement techniques to consider, with practical advice from experienced Summer Faculty Fanny Lauby, Associate Professor of Political Science and Law.

Responding to Artificial Intelligence with Effective Instructional Design

Generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot have exploded in popularity and pose many questions in higher education related to academic integrity and authenticity of work produced by our students. This workshop empowers faculty with an overview of AI text generators, assessment design approaches for mitigating misuse, considerations on leveraging these tools to enhance learning activities, and developing an AI policy for your summer courses..

Maximizing Student Engagement in Summer Courses with Instructional Technologies

Concerned about keeping students engaged in an accelerated semester? Learn how you can utilize several instructional technologies (Flip, Padlet, Hypothesis, and Poll Everywhere) to enrich your course activities, foster student collaboration, and allow for multiple methods of contribution and expression.

Using Panopto to Create DIY Videos for Courses

Create videos using Panopto which is an easy-to-use video platform that provides screencasting, lecture capture, and video content management. In this session, you will learn how to get started in Panopto record/upload lectures, build informative or summative assessments, and share them with your students in Canvas.

Get Ready for Canvas New Quizzes

New Quizzes is the new quiz tool now available in Canvas. New Quizzes allows for new question types, additional quiz setting options, and enhanced student performance analytics. In this session you will learn about the new quiz options (Hot Spot, Categorization, and Stimulus questions) and the differences between our current quiz tool and New Quizzes.
