PM 101: Workshop 4 - Schedule Management

Location: In-Person | COLE 340

Date: Jan 23, 2025

Time: 1pm – 3pm

Facilitator: David Vincenti

When project management was first founded in the 1950’s, the main domain of focus was managing me and schedule. The question of “when” continues to be true today. Hardly any work, not just projects, has milestones and deadlines. This workshop focuses on schedule management and the many related activities, such as activity sequencing. We will also discuss some strategies to manage work under me pressure, such as fast tracking, scheduling crashing, me boxing, and others.

As a part of the workshop, we are planning two activities:

  1. Develop a rudimentary integrated project schedule
  2. Create a project Gant chart

Benefits

To Participants:

  • Learn a successful approach to developing project schedules, ensuring higher probabilities of on-schedule completion and enabling productive conversations with sponsors and stakeholders..
  • Understand which tasks in a project require the most focus to ensure on schedule completion (learn to prioritize project manager attention for the best success of the project).
  • Acquire a set of tools to apply when schedules are challenged by external constraints to ensure success isn’t lessened by factors outside the control of the project team.

To the University:

  • Deploy a common approach to schedule development enabling higher degrees of project success and enabling more productive conversations about shared resources and common priorities.
