PM 101: Workshop 6 - Introduction to Project Management

Location: In-Person | COLE 340

Date: Mar 13, 2025

Time: 1pm – 3pm

Facilitator: David Vincenti

The primary goal of this workshop is to introduce project management – what, why, who, where, when, and how. In addition, the workshop will introduce the organizing framework of project management, including the key principles, knowledge domains, life cycle, processes, tools, and techniques. If me permits, we will also briefly discuss the Project Management Institute (PMI) and its certifications.

As a part of the workshop, we are planning two activities:

  1. Discussion on the projects in your professional and personal work
  2. Examine what many consider to be the most important planning document in project management – the project charter

Benefits

To Participants:

  • Gain a working knowledge of the steps involved in and knowledge required for the successful completion of projects.
  • Acquire a vocabulary which permits conversations and learnings across many departments and disciplines.
  • Lay a foundation for the tactical tools to be learned in future workshops.

To the University:

  • Deploy a common vocabulary for conversations and learnings across many departments and disciplines, leading to a higher rate of projects completed on budget, on schedule, with expected results.
