Reading the Room: Emotional Intelligence at Work Online
Join us for an engaging RealTalk @ Montclair experience, presented by Genicka Voltaire, HR Business Partner for Facilities, in collaboration with the Office of Inclusive Excellence, centered on strengthening emotional intelligence in the workplace. What does it really take to work well with people who communicate differently, approach challenges differently, or simply see the world differently than you do?
Emotional intelligence - one of Montclair’s seven institutional capabilities - is less about being the smartest person in the room and more about being able to read it: recognizing emotions, understanding how our own reactions impact others, and responding in ways that strengthen trust, communication, and connection.
Through reflection, conversation, and interactive activities, participants will explore the masks we sometimes wear at work, the role trust plays in creating effective teams, and how emotional intelligence can help build environments where people feel comfortable contributing and being themselves. Together, we will examine small, practical shifts that can strengthen relationships, improve collaboration, and foster a greater sense of belonging across the University.
Whether you are navigating challenging conversations, building new working relationships, or simply looking to better understand yourself and those around you, this RealTalk session offers a welcoming space for honest reflection, shared experiences, and practical learning. Come ready to reflect and leave with at least one action you can put into practice.
